There is no longer an arguable debate regarding whether or not our city government puts their wellbeing above that of its Citizens – they have now blatantly proven it!
At the last regularly scheduled Planning & Zoning meeting the agenda was to review the plat for the “Town Creek Development”, a 130 acre high density 500 home DR Horton subdivision stretching from Cailloux Blvd. around the ballfields from to Town Creek Road.
Prior to the scheduled P&Z meeting, the city had already agreed with DR Horton let them eliminate approximately six acres of parkland required by ordinance in lieu of a cash payment AND allowed them to clearcut the 130 acre site without replanting trees in lieu of a cash payment.
For the first time in longer than can be remembered, the Planning and Zoning Committee failed to assemble a quorum. As a result, due to Texas law, the preliminary plat, void of trees and void of parks, was automatically approved. Without a P&Z meeting, there was no vote and no member held accountable for voting for or against the plat. How convenient.
One hundred thirty acres densely packed with five hundred homes without a single a single park for children and recreation and without the requirement to replant a single tree. Nothing to benefit the quality of life for future citizens; a huge windfall to DR Horton in exchange for lots of cash to the city.
Read the intended “purpose” of the ordinances to see how the citizens are being cheated.
The only way to keep this from happening again is to let your voice heard!
Email ALL City Council members AND city manager and ask them to directly state whether they support and defend this action OR believe it is wrong, and 1) expose the person making this decision 2) will attempt to have it reversed and 3) vow to ensure it never happens again on their watch.
